Antoine Blanchard ( 1910- 1988)

Born in France near the banks of the Loire, Blanchard went on to study sculpture and drawing at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He later competed for the Prix de Rome. Served in World War II. Most of Blanchard's work is centered around Parisian street scenes. Very popular painter in the Paris School.

Lot 70. "Porte St. Denis, Paris", oil on canvas, signed lower right. Image size apprx 19-1/4" 23-1/2", overall with frame apprx 29" x 33". Blanchard studied at l'Ecole des Beux-Arts and competed in the Prix de Rome. His work is likened to Cortes, painting similar Parisian landmarks.
