Lot 125. A copper plate engraving of asparagus from Phytanthoza Iconographia 1735-45. The Thyrsus asparagi, the Asparagus, Asperge and the Asparagus monstrosus. Numbered 182 in plate, upper right corner, plate measures apprx 12-3/4" x 8-1/2", paper apprx 15-3/4" x 10". Visible chain lines and water mark in center of paper. The copper plates were prepared with etched outlines and mezzotinted interior tones. The images were printed in color from the plates and finished with hand coloring.
