Etching, 5th edition of 12, published by Calcografia for Real Academia 1881-1886. No visible watermark, cream colored laid paper. Impression from before the steel facing of the plate. Apprx 8-1/4" x 6-1/2" plate mark, (image apprx 18.8 x 12.4cm). Overall measures apprx 11" x 7-3/4". The eighty etchings of "Los Caprichos" were the first collection Goya produced for sale as a single set. In 1803, fearful of the Spanish Inquisition, Goya relinquished the plates to Charles IV, in return for a pension for his son.
