Lot 79. Red squirrel and birds. Oil on masonite, signed in the lower right corner, framed in a newer gilt and antiqued frame, 19-1/2" x 17-3/4", with framing overall 23-1/4" x 21-1/4". A feisty red squirrel on a tree limb regards the tree's other two inhabitants: two birds. The scene is rendered with a palette knife in a vigorous impasto, adding energy to the narrative.
