John Kay (British - )February 2006 Online Auction Lot 185. A lot of four framed antique hand colored prints of people. The first is a bewigged man in an important-looking military outfit, shown in profile; approx. 3-3/4" x 3" plate size, matted and framed approx. 10-1/2" x 9-3/8", bears a label on verso from a gallery in London, England stating that the artist was John Kay, and that the piece is a copper engraving dated 1795. The second print is titled "Jamie Duff, An Idiot Commonly Called Baillie Duff, Died 1788 below the image; it is also signed "Kay 1812" in the plate. This is also labeled on verso as a copper etching dated 1812 with the label from the same gallery. It is matted and framed in burlwood; plate size approx. 5-1/2" x 3-3/8", with French lined mat and burlwood frame approx. 14" x 11-1/2". The third etching is of a group of gentlemen and a charming young lady, dated 1786 in the lower right corner of the plate and "K fecit" in the lower left corner of the plate, matted and framed; plate size approx. 3-3/4" x 4-3/4", with burlwood inlaid frame approx. 10-1/4" x 11-3/4". The last piece is an amusing image of a gentleman confronting two braying donkeys; both of whom are wearing bows on their toes. This is also a hand colored etching bearing the label of the British gallery stating that is by John Kay, etched with "Kay 1789" in tiny letters near the man's foot. February 2006 Online Auction Lot 186. A lot of four framed antique hand colored etchings of portraits by John Kay (British, 18th/19th Century) taken from folios or books. The first shows profiles of four very individual men in profile, dated 1786 in the lower right corner and "Kay fecit" in the lower left corner; also inscribed below the image "(Bucks have at you all or who's afraid)", double matted and framed. Plate size is approx. 4-1/2" x 4", with frame approx. 12-1/4" x 11-1/2". The second print is a military gentleman with his hat at a rakish angle, with "J. Kay 1804" below the oval image, matted and framed. Plate size is approx. 6-1/4" x 3-3/4", with burlwood frame approx.; 12-3/4" x 9-3/4". The third print is titled "James McKean at the Bar Edin." (on trial in Edinborough), dated "Dec. 12, 1796" in the lower right corner and initialed "JK" in the lower left corner. It depicts the gentleman flanked by two military men with many men behind, matted and framed, plate size is approx. 4-1/4" x 6-1/4", with burlwood frame approx. 12-1/2" x 14". The fourth print is titled "Maria Scotorum Regina et Franciae Dotaria" and inscribed "J.K. fecit 1795" below the oval portrait. A lot of four antique hand colored etchings of lawyers by John Kay (British, 18th/19th Century), taken from folios or books, each matted and framed, though not alike. The first is a young bewigged lawyer pictured with a legal tome in hand, with "J. Kay fecit 1791" below the oval image. The plate size is approx. 5-1/4" x 3-1/4", with mat and frame approx. 12" x 9-1/2". The second image is an elderly Lawyer holding a manuscript and an eyeglass, inscribed "J. Kay, 1799" below the oval image. The plate size is approx. 5-1/4" x 4", overall with mat and frame approx. 12-3/4" x 11-1/4". The third image is a portrait of a robust Barrister, with "J. Kay 1800" inscribed below the oval image. The plate size is approx. 4-3/4" x 3", with mat and frame overall approx. 12-3/4" x 10-1/4". The fourth print is a scene with fifteen Lawyers around a circular table, each being an individual portrait, inscribed "Last Sitting of the Old Court of Session 11 of July 1808" and "J.
