Lot 27. "Bather Resting". Oil on canvas, signed "Blendon Campbell" on the lower left corner. Decorative gilt frame. Image measures approx. 25-1/2" x 19-1/2", overall framed approx. 33" x 27". Campbell studied in Paris with Laurens and Constant at the Academie Julien and later with J.M. Whistler. By the age of 27 he won several prizes at the paris Salon. He exhibited extensively until 1949. Nymphs were probably his favorite subject matter. Blendon Campbell's works are represented in such institutions as the Art Institute of Chicago, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., and Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
