Lot 73. "Winter Evening". Oil on canvas, signed in Cyrillic on the lower right corner, framed in a carved gilt wood frame with stylized leaves; canvas liner. Image measures approx. 11-1/2" x 15-1/2"; framed overall approx. 20" x 24". A charming naive winter scene. Maria Podverbnaya was born in 1941 in a small town near Kostroma, in the heart of Russia. For a few years Maria worked as a teacher of literature in a small school on the banks of the Volga river. In 1964 she graduated with honors from the Pedagogical Institute, Kostroma (Russia), class of graphic arts. Her naive paintings bring smile and amazing feeling of life full of fairy-tales.
