Lot 36. Untitled. Oil on canvas, signature not found. Image depicts a man working near an open fire pit in a steel mill. Framed in beaded gilt wood frame. Image approx. 27" x 34-3/4", framed overall approx. 31" x 39". Born in Germany, George Adomeit came to the United States with his family in 1883, settling in Cleveland, Ohio where he supported himself as a commercial artist and printmaker. He trained in commercial printing, studied at the Cleveland School of Art, and had a successful printing company known as the Caxton Press. He emerged in the 1920's as one of the region's leading painters of American Scene genre, especially known for industrial subjects. Many of his pictures are in the Cleveland Museum of Art.
