Lot 27. Miniature oval portrait of a fine lady on ivory. Exquisite detailing to face and elaborate costume. Measures apprx 3-1/4"H x 2-1/2. Signed on mid right. Miniature ivory paintings came into American and European vogue in the 1700's. The naturally translucent material was well suited to the luminous techniques of portrait painting. Comes with square Victorian frame accented with an applied metal thistle.
