Lot 28. "Village Street at Night". Oil on canvas, framed, 18" x 14-3/4", signed lower left. A dreamy village scene depicts a young woman walking in the shadows of the dim, purple light of dusk with stars above. Probably painted circa 1888. In a substantial, carved frame with name plate, entire item measures apprx 29"H x 26"W. Provenance: Ex Coll. John Gobey, Columbus, Ohio, by descent. Acquired from Thomas Dunbar Fine Prints, Milwaukee in 1920. Documentation of this piece will accompany the sale of this painting. Portrait of Lerolle's wife and daughter by Bastien-Lepage is a major work in the collection of the Cleveland Museum and can be seen on the cover of the May/June issue of the Cleveland Museum of Arts Members Magazine.
