Henri Lerolle (French 1848- 1929)May 2005 Fine Art & Antiques Lot 28. "Village Street at Night". Oil on canvas, framed, 18" x 14-3/4", signed lower left. A dreamy village scene depicts a young woman walking in the shadows of the dim, purple light of dusk with stars above. Probably painted circa 1888. In a substantial, carved frame with name plate, entire item measures apprx 29"H x 26"W. Provenance: Ex Coll. John Gobey, Columbus, Ohio, by descent. Acquired from Thomas Dunbar Fine Prints, Milwaukee in 1920. Documentation of this piece will accompany the sale of this painting.
