Lot 36. "A Zeeland Peasant Woman". Oil on academy board, signed in the lower left corner, thumb print in red in the lower right corner, framed in a frilly gilt frame with burnished ornaments, 7-1/4" x 6" board size, with frame overall 13-1/4" x 12-1/4". The rosy-cheeked young lady wearing her wedding headdress gazes smilingly toward the viewer, while pointing to a page in a book. She is seated before a table with a red cloth cover, with a delicate ewer of wine and a filled wine glass before her. Art Club of Philadelphia, ca. 1989, exhibition label affixed to verso. Also noted on the label that it was exhibited in New York at the National Academy of Design in the spring of '98.
