Lot 89. "Sea Shore." Oil on board, signed on the lower right corner, framed in a grey-stained wood frame; oatmeal mat. Board measures approx. 12" x 16"; framed overall approx. 16-1/2" x 20-1/2." Bernard Lennon was born in Milton, Massachusetts, in 1914, and studied at The Massachusetts School of Art. He later lived and was active in New York City, and in Gaylordsville, Connecticut, where he mentored students in Contemporary Impressionism. Some of his students continue to live and paint in the Gaylordsville area. He exhibited at The Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, New York.

These Post-Impressionist style scenes, one a view through an arched window and the other a harbor seen beyond the arch of a bridge, display the artist's interest in the compositional device of views through portals.
