John Sargent Noble (British 1846- 1896)November 2006 Fine Art & Antiques Auction Lot 35. "Otterhounds". Oil on canvas, signed in the lower left corner, 30" x 25" canvas size, with coved and beaded gilded wood frame overall, 35-1/2" x 30-3/4", with nameplate at on the frame. Four beautifully painted dogs rest in various postures before an open stable door, through which another dog can be seen sleeping. To the right hangs a red coat and a bucket and push-broom below. The door and door frame have been roughly coated with metal sheeting to protect it from wear. Similar devices were used by Noble in many of his compositions.
