1. Attrib: George Morland (British, 1763-1804) Brother protecting his sister in a storm. Oil on canvas, approx. 30" x 25", no signature found, framed overall approx. 36" x 31-1/2". A most dramatic representation of two children spot lighted in the center of the composition and surrounded by a ferocious storm. To the left is a tilted signpost and to the right a bolt of lightening. This sort of theatrical drama plus the depiction of children has been an extremely popular subject in England since the 18th century.
