Le Bon Genre is notable in that it is the most important fashion portfolio of its time because it depicts through its' caricatures, the rise of modern Paris with its bourgeois fashion, recreation and courting customs. The popularity influenced the fashion plate journals that followed as well as the satirical albums that were typical of mid-19th century France. "Le Bon Genre" bears witness to the historic and colorful episode of Parisian social history at the end of the French revolution.
