90. A Set Of Four French Hand-colored Engravings From "Le Bon Genre"

From the Paris 1925 Albert Levy restrike of an early 19th Century series, printed from the original plates, depicting whimsical scenes. Paper sizes; apprx 10-5/8" x 8-7/8", apprx 11-3/8" x 8-1/2", apprx 11" x 9-1/8", apprx 16" x 11". Each one is hand colored and paper is adheared to mat board along top margin, not overmatted, framed.

Le Bon Genre is notable in that it is the most important fashion portfolio of its time because it depicts through its' caricatures, the rise of modern Paris with its bourgeois fashion, recreation and courting customs. The popularity influenced the fashion plate journals that followed as well as the satirical albums that were typical of mid-19th century France. "Le Bon Genre" bears witness to the historic and colorful episode of Parisian social history at the end of the French revolution. Each colotype is hand colored and framed; apprx 10-5/8" x 8-7/8" apprx 11-3/8" x 8-1/2" apprx 11" x 9-1/8" apprx 16" x 11".
