| 72. Attributed to Elihu Vedder (American 1836-1923)
Pencil on brown paper with white pastel highlights. Unframed, paper size apprx 9-1/2" x 12". Elihu Vedder is famous for his illustrations in Edward FitzGerald's 19th century translation of "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam". He also did sketches for Vanity Fair and was involved in the 'In Arte Libertas' group, inspired by Gabriele D'Annunzio in Rome. The Cleveland Museum of Art has a Vedder paintng included in their current exhibit "The Gilded Age". 200/400 back to catalog |
