"Four Views Of Italy and Sicily." Oils on copper, not signed, in period frames, apprx 21-1/2" x 10". Extremely detailed depiction of panoramic views, with delicate lighting and charming notations in the compositions. Old hand-written labels on backs; some illegible.

4. Madonna and Child (Continental, 19th Century)
After Jacobus Van Opstal Gasper, (Flemish, 1654-1719). Oil on canvas, framed, 28-1/4" x 38". Composition originally created by the great master Andrea De Sarto. Flesh tones are beautifully rendered. The chairoscuro (lighting) is typical of the grand style of the Renaissance. Canvas has been mounted to a masonite board.

Unknown sitter posing for a miniature portrait; the type possibly to be sent to a prospective bride. Set in an Italian square leather covered frame with an oval glass and a small brass fillet. Front adorned with decorative embossing, backed with brown cloth and embossed with maker's stamp. Image size appx 2-1/4" x 1-5/8".

Allegorical Scene. Oil on canvas, appx 37" x 50-1/2". Archangel Michael(?) slaying the sinners. Interior of building has a great mix of architectural elements. Figures are costumed in Classical Roman manner. Frame was originally gold leaf and burnished bronze. Victorian multi-layered frame, apprx 5-1/2" wide.

10. Rosewell Morse Shurtleff (American 1838-1915)
"A Race For Life" framed 26 1/2" x 38 1/2", oil on canvas, signed lower right "R.M. Shurtleff" and dated "77". The gold leaf frame is comprised of liners, probably missing ornate outer frame. Scene depicts a pack of wolves chasing a person through the woods. The wolves have chased him through the landscape and out of sight. The only references are his footsteps and his hat laying in the snow, which one of the wolves has stopped to inspect. Shurtleff is best known for his landscapes and some animal paintings. His work has been sold through such auction houses as Christies, Sothebys and Butterfields. The highest price realized at auction for his work thus far is $12,650.
