3. Follower of Gaspar van Wittel, called Vanvitelli or Gasparo dagli Occhiali, Late 1700's

"Four Views Of Italy and Sicily." Oils on copper, not signed, in period frames, apprx 21-1/2" x 10". Extremely detailed depiction of panoramic views, with delicate lighting and charming notations in the compositions. Old hand-written labels on backs; some illegible.

Christie's provenance: Stock number 394FE was the property of Albert Cubett Junr., St. Martins Vicarage, Palace Plain, Norwich. He brought in 16 pictures and 18 prints on 23 May 1930. They were in the sale of 4 July 1930 as lot 36: G. van Vitelli, Views of Genoa, Naples and Italian ports - a set of four on metal. They sold for £14.4.- to Waters. Purchased by Mrs. William S. Peace of Philadelphia at auction and has remained in the family until now.
