1112. A Japanese Woodblock Scroll of Actor Triptychs
Consisting of several woodblock prints on paper, in triptych format affixed to a rice paper makimono, approx. 14-1/4"H x 140" with each of the fifteen sheets approx. 14"H x 9- 1/2"W, (oban) mounted in sequence. The backing paper has hand painted Japanese calligraphy overall. The compositions share an equally strong design sensibility; the characters are depicted close to the viewer, mainly in 3/4 figure, with an equally vivid backdrop of a combination of geometric patterns and strong colors, emphasizing the action among the figures. Some appear to have the signature of Kunichika and some of Kunisada.

1114. A Carved Jade "Champion" or "Hero" Vase
Traditionally styled hero cup, carved from a single piece of green jade with cream color striations. In the form of two octagonal cups on small feet, connected with a protruding figure of a stylized eagle standing on a head of a bear, whose tail and hind end emerges between the vases at the rear; sides of the cups are carved with masks. The carving is nested on a fitted carved stand. With the stand measures approx. 6-1/2"H 4-1/3"W x 3"D.
