85. George Hitchcock (American, 1850-1913)
Pastel on paper of domestic interior scene, typical of the Egmond School, c.1885. Not matted or framed, image is appx 19-1/2" x 12-1/2", signed lower right.
His work is in the pemanent collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum as well as the Telfair Museum of Art in Savannah Georgia. He was appointed the first American to receive the Officer's Cross of the Order of Franz Joseph of Austria, the first American member of the Vienna Academy and in 1909 he was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design, New York. His work is in the current exhibition at Cleveland Museum of Art, "The Gilded Age."

One of the best known landscape painters in Connecticut in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Griffin studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and in 1903 he joined fellow painter and close friend Childe Hassam in Old Lyme CT. He was elected to the National Acandemy in 1922.

97. Louis Buisseret (Belgian, 1888-1956)
"Seated Woman", pastel on "Ingres" watermarked paper, signed lower center margin, framed, approx. image size 18" x 21", overall approx. size 29-1/4" x 32". Purchased in a Paris gallery.
Buisseret was a painter of portraits, nudes and still lifes, as well as a draughtsman and engraver. He traveled extensively to Italy, France, Germany and Austria. Buisseret was also a founding member of the group Nervia (c.1928) with A. Carte and L Devos.
