21. Manner of David Teniers the Elder (b. 1582, Antwerpen, d. 1649, Antwerpen)

Oil on hard wood, scene of men in village with bow & arrows practicing with a bullseye. Charming views of thatched roof buildings and distant churchs. Approx. size 8" x 14-1/2", unframed, beveled back.

A Flemish Late Mannerist painter, David Teniers the Elder had been unsuccessful and was even put into prison for debt. David Teniers the Elder was primarily a painter of religious scenes. Few pictures are known that are certainly by him, and many formerly attributed to him are now given to his son, David the Younger, which whom he may have collaborated.
