As a young man, Leslie honed his artistic talents as he sketched and painted farm scenes from around eastern and southeastern Ohio. Leslie began working at The McCoy Pottery where he became a designer, side-by-side, with his father Sidney, who became the designer for the Nelson McCoy Pottery Co. Leslie's works can be seen in the permanent collections of The Cope Gallery in Roseville. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Carnegie Institute, The Smithsonian Institute and The Library of Congress.
