| 241. Biscuit Barrel, C. Late 19th Century
Elkington & Co. silver plate oval shaped barrel with bone knob. Lion head handles with rings and four ornamental feet. Trademark and stamp on bottom and numbered 11501. Apprx size 6-1/2"l x 5-1/2"h x 4-1/2"w. Elkington was the supplier of flatware to the luxury dining sections on board the Titanic and other ships in the White Star Line fleet. They were the originators of silver-plating and begain their research in times of the industrial revolution. By the 1830's they had patented their processes and 1840 saw the technique of electro-plating brought to perfection. 200/400 Sold $184.00 back to catalog |
