106. Yohanan Simon (Israeli, 1905-1976)
"Kibbutz Scene", oil on canvas adhered to board, image size apprx 6-1/4" x 8-1/2", overall with frame apprx 12-3/4" x 15", signed lower left corner "Yohanan Simon" and dated lower right 1968. Born in Berlin in 1905 Yohanan Simon studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris as well as the Art Academy in Munich. He later moved to the United States where he spent much of his time in New York where he worked for "Vogue" magazine and illustrated books. Simon died in Israel in 1976. His work is highly collected and has extensive auction records.
