"The Farmer's Daughter". Lithograph on wove cream paper, signed in pencil lower right. Rich tones and smooth even impression, thin plate marks around perimeter. Plate size apprx 9-3/4" x 13-1/4". Benton wrote about this drawing stating, "Tenant farmers house in the farmlands of Northwest Missouri. Original drawing made in 1940." Benton depicted images of common American experiences, ideas and values that any American could relate to.

"The Comet", original drypoint engraving on watermarked "France" paper, unframed, apprx 12" x 9" paper size. Signed lower right in margin. Published in Cleveland by the Cleveland Museum of Art Print Club, No. 12 in December of 1934 in a limited edition of 250 signed impressions. The second image is of a man coming down a fenced trail with a tree, apprx image size 5" x 4", signed and dated "4-8-38 Joe Fogarty".

188. Wray Manning (American, b. 1898)
Watercolor on artist board, image size apprx 21-3/4" x 29-1/2", in original frame, overall apprx 29" x 37". This artwork was exhibited in the 1946, 28th Cleveland Museum of Art May Show and was also part of the 19th Cleveland Traveling Watercolor Exhibition. Both tags are afixed to verso. Wray Manning's work is in the permanent collection of The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. He was also an award winner at The Cleveland Museum of Art's 1954 May Show.

189. Fashion Plate from Le Charivari
This is a leaf from the popular french newspaper "Le Charivari". It illustrates some popular women's fashions from the period. On the front of the leaf two women are shown wearing the latest Parisian fashions. On verso of the image is a column that describes exactly what the women are wearing and where it can be puchased. The image is in excellent condition, although the mat is falling apart. Image measures apprx 14-1/4" x 9-3/4". There is a slight crease through the center of the image, this is due to the original folding of the newspaper. This satire based newspaper was created in 1832 by the French journalist Charles Philipon.

190. Fashion Plate from Le Charivari
This is a hand colored engraving of popular women's fashion in the mid 1800's. This leaf has been taken from an issue of the French newspaper "Le Charivari". The image depicts two women modeling some of the latest French fashions. At the bottom of the leaf is a brief description of the fashion. More in depth details about the clothing as well as where it can be purchased is printed in a column on the back. The image has been matted and is in very good condition despite a small area of glue residue on the upper left corner. Great attention has been paid to the details of the clothing and the textures of the fabrics. There is a slight crease in the center of the image due to the original folding of the newspaper. "Le Charivari" was created by the French journalist Charles Philipon in 1832. This page is from apprx 1840 and measures apprx 14-1/4" x 9-1/2" . Stamp in the upper margin a seal reads "Royal Timbre, 3c. Seine".

193. Original Lithograph after Heine by Sarony & Co.
19th century lithograph. Measures apprx 19" x 15". This lithograph depicts the anchorage at Whampoa and the famous Whampoa Pagoda. Perry noted "The pagoda here is a marked object, and however it may be venerated by the Chinese, on religious grounds, is no less regarded for its usefulness as a land mark by foreign vessels for they steer and anchor by its bearings." Image is labeled "W. Heine del Whampoa Pagoda (No. 3) Lith of Sarony & Co 117 Fulton St. New York." This image dates from the mid 1800's. From 1853 to 1857 images such as this bore the name Sarony & Company. W. Heine is the designer of the original lithograph.
