276. A Pair of German Sterling Silver Candelabra


Handarbeit, a German silver company, produced this pair of three light candelabra. Both have a hollow, rounded base with four scrolled feet, two protruding arms and decorative repousse of flowers and ferns. Hallmarks on both bases including the crown and moon mark introduced in 1888. Also, "Handarbeit Sterling", apprx 37.6 Troy oz.

A hinged lidded container with decorative bands on body and diamond cartouche on front. Lid has raised scalloped center with patterning and rose center. Netherlands standard silver mark of a rampant lion facing right, #7545, ref. "The Book of Old Silver" by Seymour B. Wyler, page 382 & 391. Hallmarks also include the head of Perseus facing left, "V146" in a square stamp, on body an lid and lower case letter "g", also found on lid. Verso inscribed "A.R.". Apprx 2"T x 1-6/8"W x 1-3/8"D, apprx .8 Troy oz.

Set includes: two trunk boxes with hinged closure; two evening bags with drop chain; two doctor bags with moveable handles; one handbag with permanent handle and hinged closure, rests on four ball feet; and six carpet-style bags with drop chain, rest on four ball feet. All bags are apprx 1", made of 925 sterling silver, and have engravings and details unique to each miniature. All but hinged purse and trunks have working ball clasps. Apprx 6.7 Troy oz.

285. Sterling Silver European Religious Devotionals.


Probably German. Hallmarks on body and base. This is a unique set of two sterling silver religious objects. First object is a two/three-dimensional figure on a ornately carved pedestal. The Saint rises up from a cloud of smoke and holds a cross in one hand and a sword in the other. He has a small container attached to his belt. A small glass oval is attached to his chest. Verso of statue is very simple with three small markings which identify this piece as European silver. Second object is a medallion hanging from a large ornate chain. Chain has three larger links. A laurel wreath connects chain to medallion. The medallion has the Virgin Mary in the center. She is surrounded by tiny silver bells. No visible hallmarks. Chain and medallion measure apprx 11-1/2" x 3-1/4" and statue measures apprx 4-1/2" x 7-1/4". Overall apprx 10 Troy oz.
