577. Two Vintage Mesh Handbags

First handbag has a sterling silver frame with chain and ball clasp. Very simple with little ornementation. Tiny silver beads hang from bottom, measures apprx 4-3/4" x 4". Second handbag features decorative gold chain and ball clasp on a marked Wade & Davis Co frame. "S" linked mesh is multicolored and has ruffle bottom. Interior is lined with floral silk, apprx 5" x 6-1/2". Originally known as the Wade & Davis Co., Whiting and Davis earned their new name when Charles Whiting joined the firm in 1876. The Massachusetts based jewelry production company expanded to produce mesh purses after Davis developed a technique to create mesh in the early 1900's.
