309. A 19th Century American Sideboard

Large two part American pine sideboard with glass upper doors. The sideboard has ample storage, with drawers and compartments behind matching doors, yet still offers the convenience of a serving piece. The compartments and drawers were originally used to store silver flatware, holloware and other serving pieces used in the contemporary dining room. This particular piece has a light stain and has two sets of doors on the bottom half.

Inside is a shelf which would have originally held linens. Two rounded drawers are featured near the center. One drawer is specifically designated for silverware and has been divided into three compartments. Both drawers have keyholes so they can be locked. A smaller drawer is located between the two larger drawers. The top can be seperated from the base. The top half of this piece has two glass doors with carved wooden handles. The interior of the top has newer paint and has a narrow wooden band which allows plates to be displayed. Beneath the glass doors are two smaller wooden drawers. The top of the sideboard has 8 panels of glass, two of which have been replaced. The very top of the piece features a molded cornice. All drawers are dove-tailed. Together this sideboard measures apprx 86"T and apprx 69"W. The upper half is apprx 10-3/4"D and apprx 69"W. The bottom is apprx 24"D and 68"W. This piece has been refinished in the 20th century and has newer hardware on the locks.
