| 353. A Salem Rocker, (American, New England, C.1840)
A 19th Century rocker the traditional Salem style, developed in New England, is a variation with a lower back than the Boston Rocker, light straight spindles and a heavier top rail scroll. This rocker has black paint, gold accents and a stencil on the head rest of a sprig of flowers. It appears to be constructed of oak (showing through patches of worn areas). There is an overall "crazing" giving a bumpy feel overall. Measures apprx 40"H x 21"W x 30"D, unsigned or marked. 150/250 Sold $92.00 back to catalog |
