This is an etching on laid paper depicting the Siege of Rhode Island, taken from Mr. Brindley's house. It is dated August 25, 1778. Published in the "Gentleman's Magazine", London, February 1779, on laid paper, with four vertical folds as issued. The scene depicted in this etching shows the encampments of the American and British troops on Butt's, Quaker and Turkey Hills at the northern end of the island, in current-day Portsmouth. Plate size apprx 6-1/4" x x 9", overall paper size apprx 8-1/8" x 10-1/2"
