Mary's hair is swept to the side and her breasts are covered by her Roman garment, which she clasps with her left hand in order to hide her beauty. The right arm is adorned with Roman jewelry. The purple colour of her cloak associates her with the Great Babylon, the mother of all harlots (Revelation 17: 5). Unmarked and unsigned. From the collection of J.A. Birch.
