67. Sobrina P. Lathrop(American, 19th/20th Century)
"The Shepherdess". Oil on canvas, signed lower right and inscribed on verso with title, artist and dated 1915. Lathrope was a California painter whose art is sought after today by collectors and dealers alike. The central figure is surrounded by her flock with a row of trees in the distance as well as a farmer and plow horse. Wonderful rounded shading on sheep and trees, with almost illustration precision. Canvas size apprx 20-1/4" x 30-1/4", overall with period frame apprx 28" x 38".

Portrait of a Gentleman. Oil on canvas. This gentleman is dressed in a musketeer-like outfit, including sash, gauntlets and plumed hat. Situated near the exterior of a castle, the gentleman plays a fanfare on his horn. Image measures apprx 12" x 16". Signed "F. LeBrun" in lower left, very faint marking indicates date which may be 1894(?). Framed, this piece measures apprx 17-1/2" x 22".

72. Carl Gaertner (American, 1898-1952)
Mining Landscape. Oil on paper, matted and framed under glass, signed and dated in lower right corner "Carl Gaertner, 1948, Demonstration, One Hour" indicating that this piece hung in the Toledo Museum of Art for a demonstration before Gaertner's pupils. This painting portrays a landscape with mining buildings in the foreground in hues of brown, pink, white and chartreuse highlights on the hillsides and in the sky. The image measures apprx 21" x 28" and framed measures apprx 33" x 40-1/4".

73. Ray Anthony Grathwol (American, 1900-1992 )
An oil on board, beach scene with a starfish and fishing lure caught on driftwood in the foreground and a tent on the beach in the background. It is signed R. Grathwol on the lower right corner. Grathwol is an Ohio born artist who is well known for his landscapes. The Akron Art Museum, the Canton Museum of Art and the Massillon Museum all own his work. The image size is 23-1/4" x 29-1/4" and framed it is 32" x 38".

76. A. Fuerst (German late 19th century-early 20th century)
A fabulous historical painting of the sinking of the Elbe. This oil on canvas is beautifully framed in a decorative gilt frame and is signed A. Fuerst in the lower right corner. A. Fuerst is thought to have been one of the twenty survivors of the ill-fated Elbe. On January 30, 1895, the 4,150 ton Elbe was sailing from Bremen to Southampton with a destination of New York, with 335 persons on board. Her demise was wholly due to the reckless navigation of the British vessel Crathie, which rammed the German liner and then left her to perish and her passengers to flounder in a roaring sea. Of her 335 passengers, 20 escaped, 5 passengers and 15 of the crew. This painting is apprx 29-1/2" x 39-1/2" image size and apprx 37-1/2" x 47-1/2" framed.
