433. A Signed Satsuma Foo Dog Vase, 19th Century


A signed Satsuma vase of the desirable Thousand Faces design sitting atop a Foo Dog. This piece incorporates many Satsuma details, including beading and slip trailing or moriage, a technique where the color is mixed into the liquid clay or slip, giving it body and a raised texture. This piece is lovely with white beading and gilt decoration on a background of red, brown, orange and black. Signed on verso, apprx 17-7/8"T x 12"L.

Extremely detailed porcelain Japanese Satsuma vase depicts one man riding an elephant. He is followed by several other men bearing various gifts. Upper register is ornately decorated with hand painted flowers. Waterfalls and geisha girls adorn the background. Overall measures apprx 12" x 5". Several figures on the vase are multidementional and have rough textures.

435. A Lovely Pair of Japanese Planters with Hand Painted Ivory flowers


A dimunitive pair of octagonal Japanese planters of mother-of-pearl and lacquer holding delicate spring bulbs of hand-painted ivory, all on a footed base. The top rim of the planter is beautifully decorated with floral designs surrounded by star shaped designs. The interior of the top holds small green pebble shaped stones, probably agate. The six ivory bulbs sit in two rows of three. One planter has three flowering bulbs and one closed bud and the other has two flowering bulbs and one closed bud. The ivory flowers are all painted with light purple highlights, small green leaves and yellow stamen. When removed, the top reveals a black lacquer interior with a mother of pearl rim. The outside of the planter has eight sections, all decorated with different three dimensional floral scenes, also trimmed in black lacquer. The mother-of-pearl underside of the planter also has a lovely floral decoration. Appx. 11" h x 6-1/4" w x 4-7/8" d.

A large late 18th Century Chinese Export bowl. The interior view shows pagoda scene with three figures at a lakeside framed by a Greek Key and a lovely floral boarder. The interior rim begins with an iorn red boarder with gold dots followed by a band of various scenes of birds and flowers, separated by lavender diamond patterned rectangles. The third band is an iron red and gold Greek key design followed by a beautifuly decorated section which includes flowers, butterflies and small pagoda scenes. The exterior of the bowl shows three scenes separated by sky blue chicken skin background with beautiful flowers. Appx 6-3/4"H x 16-1/4"D.

A Long Kunisada woodblock print with soft colors, girl walking with a parasol, signed in print at middle left. Image apprx 27-1/4" x 9-1/4". Presented with a creame colored overmat and wood frame, overall size apprx 34-1/2" x 15-1/2". Lot includes a gouache on very thin Japanese paper to have been made into a fan. The sheet has two cranes in flight in black, white, hints of red/orange with green bushes. Mid 20th century, presented in white mat, overall size apprx 18" x 28".

This vase is a beautiful sky blue with cloisonne flowers in greens, browns, whites, yellow and hints of pink. It has a silver collar on the neck and base. Inside is mottled and lined with some pink and green coloring. Apprx 10" h x 3-1/4" base x 3" at neck.

A beautifully carved onyx recumbant ox sits atop a pillar, both with fine detail. The pillar has a band around the top, Chinese characters and outlines of what appear to be mountains or hills. The bottom is a stamp of carved Chinese characters. It measures apprx 3"H.

Oriental hand carved incense burner is comprised of two pieces. Bottom piece has three legs carved to resemble lions. Carved handles have floral design and are accented by wooden rings. Hollowed out center attaches to top section. Upper half of incense burner has been carved to allow scent to drift out. Detailed floral carving and wooden rings accent the upper section of this piece. Overall measures apprx 6"H x 6"W at handles.

A pair of decorative ceramic urns from Korea feature a sage-green glaze. Double handled and accented with ceramic rings. Signature painted on verso in oriental characters. Surface of urns is decorated with a leaf pattern as well as a square motif. Size is apprx 11-1/2" x 9-1/2".
