540. Twenty Years of The Bulletin of The Cleveland Museum of Art 1961-81
Twenty five volumes, bound with "The Bulletin", spanning twenty years of monthly publications of exhibitions, lectures and series of The Cleveland Museum of Art. Each volume is bound in full red leather with hand tooling and gilt. Starting with January, 1965, there is a book binders stamp at the top of the cover board, marked "F.R.E.S.S. LISBOA". Apprx 9-1/4" x 8". This would be an excellent addition to any library or for anyone with an appreciation of the arts and the Cleveland Museum of Art.

541. Qur'an Manuscript Leaf, C. 10th century
This leaf from the Qur'ran, the sacred Islamic Qur'anic text of the prophet Muhammad, is written in bold Kufic in brown ink with headings and vowel pointing in red on cream-colored vellum. It also has some numbers penciled in the upper margin. Adheared to white backing and matted. Leaf measures apprx 7" x 9." Paper size is apprx 11" x 14." The Qur'an is a compilation of writings by Mohammed and is used as the Muslim bible. It is regarded by most Muslims as the uncreated word of God.

One of 500 copies, volumes 3 and 4 hardcover set in original two-toned cloth, leather labels on spines and publisher divided slipcase. A splendid catalogue which includes detailed bibliographical descriptions for each of the 149 manuscripts, having been purchased by Mellon from Denis Duveen in 1952. Its companion, containing the first two volumes devoted to the Mellon collection, was published in 1968.

Full calf with raised bands on spine, leather tooling on boards and spine, loss of gilt, rebound in leather with original leather spine. Chained lined paper with discoloration and foxing throughout. Both vol. appear to be intact. Applied exlibris plate at upper left of front bords on both, while one has owner stamped signature "Vevens (sp?) Robinson". Both overall apprx 7-7/16" H x 4-13/16"D x 1-2/16"W.
