| 435. A Lovely Pair of Japanese Planters with Hand Painted Ivory flowers
A dimunitive pair of octagonal Japanese planters of mother-of-pearl and lacquer holding delicate spring bulbs of hand-painted ivory, all on a footed base. The top rim of the planter is beautifully decorated with floral designs surrounded by star shaped designs. The interior of the top holds small green pebble shaped stones, probably agate. The six ivory bulbs sit in two rows of three. One planter has three flowering bulbs and one closed bud and the other has two flowering bulbs and one closed bud. The ivory flowers are all painted with light purple highlights, small green leaves and yellow stamen. When removed, the top reveals a black lacquer interior with a mother of pearl rim. The outside of the planter has eight sections, all decorated with different three dimensional floral scenes, also trimmed in black lacquer. The mother-of-pearl underside of the planter also has a lovely floral decoration. Appx. 11" h x 6-1/4" w x 4-7/8" d. 250/500 Sold $184.00 back to catalog |
