235. A Pair of 19th Century Barbadienne Planters

A fabulous pair of bronze planters with gilt accents and great detail including neoclassical banding around the rim of the planter, lovely ornamental scrolling handles flanked by leaves. On either side of the planter is a man's and woman's visage surrounded by leaves, clusters of acorns and bunches of grapes. The verso of planter has lovely decorative swag designs. The stem has ram's heads on either side, surrounded by bunches of grapes with swag decorations underneath and neoclassical link banding at it's base. The signature F. BARBEDIENNE is inscribed at the base of the bronze. The bronze planter sits on a rouge marble octagonal base trimmed with a bronze band. Apprx 10-1/2" high from base to top of handle x apprx 6-3/4"W at base.
