25 chromolithograph plates from "The Grammer of the Ornament" by Owen Jones (1868, second edition). An Outstanding 19th-Century Compedium of Ornamanet and Decoration. This groups includes plates from his chapters on Persian, Nineveh, Greek, Moresque, and Savage Tribes decorations. Apprx size 9" x 13"

Owen Jones was an architect, designer, and teacher of Applied Arts at the South Kensington School of Design. Drawing on his first-hand experience as well as his clearly articulated theories and teaching practice, Jones set to work on a vast, near-encyclopedic reference of ornamental style, form, and color that would encompass all his knowledge and ideas on decorative art, and act as a source-book and inspiration to others.
