28 chromolithograph plates from "The Grammer of the Ornament" by Owen Jones (1868, second edition). An Outstanding 19th-Century Compedium of Ornamanet and Decoration. This groups includes plates from his chapters on Indian, Arabian, Pompeian, Turkish, Hindoo, Egyptian, Elizabethan, Middle ages, Renaissance, Byzantine, Chinese, and Italian decorations. Apprx size 9" x 13"

Owen Jones was an architect, designer, and teacher of Applied Arts at the South Kensington School of Design. Drawing on his first-hand experience as well as his clearly articulated theories and teaching practice, Jones set to work on a vast, near-encyclopedic reference of ornamental style, form, and color that would encompass all his knowledge and ideas on decorative art, and act as a source-book and inspiration to others.
