49. Attributed to Seldon Conner Gile (American, 1877-1947)

"Lake Geneva, Wisconsin", oil on board painting attributed to Seldon Conner Gile depicts a peaceful summer scene where vacationers relax by the shore or beneath the shade of a large tree. Mountains are visible in the background. Thick, painterly application of oils. Image measures apprx 18-1/2" x 13-1/4". Framed this piece measures apprx 26" x 20-1/2".

Tag on verso attributes this painting to Seldon Conner Gile who belonged to “The Society of Six,” a group that was devoted to a unique, modernist style of representation reminiscent of the French Fauvists. During the 1920’s the group hiked, painted, exhibited, and even lived together. They were active together in the Bay Area from around 1918-1930.
