140. William Sommer (American 1867-1949)

Watercolor and ink on paper depicts a circus horse and ringmaster. Signed "Wm. Sommer" in lower right corner. Image is apprx 11" x 15." Matted and framed this piece measures apprx 18-1/2" x 22-1/2". Released from a private collection, originally purchased from June Sommer.

Sommer was born in Detroit, Michigan, and studied with a lithographer for seven years. His work is found in many public collections including the National Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He is a well known Cleveland School artist.
