| 141. William Sommer (American, 1867-1949)
Watercolor on paper with ink depicts a cubist-style landscape scene in which cattle graze in tree-lined field. Signed "Wm. Sommer" in lower left corner. Image measures apprx 16-1/2" x 10-1/2". Matted and framed this piece measures apprx 24-1/2" x 18-1/2". Frame is simple brass accented with a rope-style trim. Coming from a private collection, originally purchased from June Sommer. Sommer was born in Detroit, Michigan, and studied with a lithographer for seven years. His work is found in many public collections including the National Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
