23. Follower of Guido Reni (Italian 1575-1642)
"St. Peter In Tears", oil on canvas. Ex-collection of the Archbishop Edward Hoban, Bishop of Cleveland. Accompanying the painting is paperwork from Hammer Galleries in New York, as they evaluated this painting for the Archbishop. Sticker on verso (# TR 16300/31.1) from the Cleveland Museum of Art, where this painting had been restored in 1977. Back of stretcher inscribed in pen "A. L. Patton", possibly the restorer. Canvas measures apprx 21" x 25".

24. Italian School, C. 17th Century
Oil on canvas of the Madonna and Child, ex-collection of the Archbishop Edward Hoban, Bishop of Cleveland. Purchased at the Archbishop Hoban's Auction on 6/23/77, lot 103. Copy of original receipt present. Wonderful rendition of clothing, lace and mother's features. Hands and eyes are especially well done. Verso of canvas is inscribed "El Tintoretto" in black, however this has a strong Raphael influence. Back of stretcher has markings and frame instructions. Four keyed stretcher. Unframed and unsigned, it is apprx 27-1/2" x 22".

25. Panel Portrait of a Pope Julius II della Rovere, C. 17th Century
Oil on wood panel with older cradle carriage, after Raphael's original portrait of the pope shortly before he died in 1512-13. He wears a red mantle; after the middle of the sixteenth century popes abandoned it almost entirely in favor of the white habit they wear today. One hand is finely rendered and is adorned with several jeweled rings. The other hand is oddly executed and adorned with jeweled rings as well. Unsigned. Panel measures apprx 31" x 43". Framed, this painting measures apprx 48" x 37". This painting has been in a private collection in Cleveland for over 15 years.

26. After Jose de Ribera, C. 18th Century
Oil on canvas painting of a saint, painted in the manner of Jose de Ribera. Ribera was a well known Spanish painter who spent most of his career in Italy. Bearded saint has his hands clasped in prayer and his gaze is directed upwards. A wooden staff is visible. The letters "CH RI TAS" have been painted in a glowing halo in the upper left corner. Unsigned. Decorative cast plaster and wooden frame features gilded and hand-painted vines and berries throughout. Canvas measures apprx 23" x 18". Framed, this painting measures apprx 30" x 25". From the estate of a Countess Michaela Almeida of Austria, from Moondsee, Austria.

John the Baptist Beheaded. Oil on canvas. John the Baptist was imprisoned and later beheaded by King Herod. His head was brought to a vengeful Herodias, who was said to stab the tongue with her dagger. In this painting John's face has a deathly pallor. A dagger is visible beneath the neck as well as blood. Canvas measures apprx 25" x 20". Framed, this painting measures apprx 31" x 27". Unsigned. From the estate of a Countess Michaela Almeida of Austria, from Moondsee, Austria.

Oil on canvas, after Reubens. This scene, painted in the manner of Reubens, depicts the adoration of the Magi. Mary is seated in the stable, with the baby Jesus in her lap. 29. Classical Scene On A Copper Bowl, C. Late 18th/Early 19th Century
Possibly French, hand painted enamels on a copper bowl. Seated, she playfully defends herself from his arrow. Overall painted in a warm gray enamel and highlighted with gold. Figures and clothing in pink, blue and white. Wonderful facial detailing and rendering of robes. Set into a custom frame of red velvet (which is very worn) and wood of carved open work. Verso of bowl also painted in warm grey enamel. No visible markings or signature. Bowl apprx 6-1/2"D, overall with frame apprx 12" squared.

30. Unknown Artist, English, C. Mid-1800's
Two oil on tin paintings show different scenes of a horse and his groom. In the first painting the groom sits in the stable and appears to be fixing the bridle. White horse has his back turned towards the viewer. Initialed "E.R." in right margin. Second painting depicts the same horse without bridle. The rider is sprawled out on the stable floor. He appears to be in a deep sleep. Signed with intials. Both paintings measure apprx 8" x 6-3/4". Framed, these pieces measure apprx 10" x 9-1/2".

Very fine hand painted portrait on ivory recreates an image by Sir Joshua Reynolds. This is a portrait of the Duchess of Rutland. Ivory portrait features a lovely hand painted porcelain frame. Frame is ornamented with a gilded crown, flowers and a gilded ribbon at the top. Portrait measures apprx 5" x 3-1/2". Frame measures apprx 10" x 6".

Hand-painted ivory portrait after Durand is framed with a delicately ornamented porcelain frame. This portrait depicts Lucy of Leinster.
