London: Samuel Richardson, 1742. A series of letters "from a young damsel to her parents." Four volumes; vol 1 & 2 are corrected 6th editions, vol 3 & 4 are corrected 3rd editions. Full calf leather with a red and black leather inserted components on spine with tooling and gilt. Bookplates inserted into all four volumes of Geo. E. Alexander. Samuel Richardson (1689-1761) was an important and influential English novelist. In his day he was also one of the most controversial as this novel showed, with rivals divided as "Pamelaists" or "antiPamelaists". Vol. I, 407 pp. Vol. II, 440 pp. Vol. III, 516 pp. Vol. IV, 494 pp. English text. Measures apprx 5-1/2" x 8."

London: Pulished for the Proprietors by I.T. Hinton, 17 Warwick Square 1831. 139 pp. "Dedicated To His Most Gracious Magesty William IV" and "Illustrated With Views". This book also has twenty two steel plate engravings (including the frontispiece) of Great Britain with important and informative text. It discontinues in mid-sentance on page 140, followed by plates and a directory. Marbled tan and blue end boards with matching marbled edges, 3/4 blue leather binding. Tooling on 3/4 leather and on spine decorated with gold and inserted red leather component. Brown end papers. Tissue between plates. "John Cain Douglas, Bookbinder" stamp on interior front board. Measures apprx 9" x 11".

Edinburgh: John Murray, 1828. 527 pp. Second edition, greatly improved and enlarged, half-title, engraved frontispiece, advertisement slip before title, 5 engraved plates. Original blue cloth boards in contemporary binding with brown cloth spine and embossed gold lettering. Includes six steel engravings including the frontispiece. His book was enthusiastically reviewed by Sir Walter Scott, and had a large circulation in America. Steuart's method of transplanting was tried with great success on estates in England and Ireland. Measures apprx 6" x 9". Pages have deckled edges.

Otherwise known as (Bernard) Lamy's ((1640-1715) Bible. Paris: Published by Joannes Anisson, 1699. Second edition (first published as "Harmonia, sive concordia quatuor evangelistarum" 1689). Two volumes, full calf leather with inserted title component, tooling and raised bands on spines. Red speckled edges. Volume I, 660 pp. Volume II, 326 pp. Latin text small roman types, including Italic, Greek, and Hebrew. Ornamentations include an ornate woodcut fleur-de-lis on the title-page. Volume II, 326 pp., contains the Apparatus Chronologicus et Geographicus, including descriptions with three fold out map/plates of Judea, a plan of Jerusalem and a plan of the temple. Exlibris plate at upper left interior of front end board from the Bollandianum Museaum. Measures apprx 8" x 10".
