346. A Malayer Carpet, late 19th Century

This soft wool carpet has a predominantly red/pinkish tone with a central medallion in dark blue. One end has six rows of geometric shapes while the other has only four. Colors of camel, beige, dark blue and red/pink are accented in this carpet in floral geometric motifs, borders and birds. Malayer is small town which has many manufacturing capabilities of nice tribal rugs and carpets of the region. Their carpets usually have a nomadic pattern with a true Herati design. Apprx 3'5" x 7'.
