80. Eric Kunde (American, b. 1969)

"Open", oil on canvas, signed on verso. A photo-realistic painting of orchids on a branch in bloom. Wonderful gradation of pigments, his application is likened to Alex Katz. Kunde has exhibited throughout the Eastern United States at many esteemed galleries. Unframed, canvas is apprx 40" x 50".

Eric Kunde was born in Cleveland in 1969 and grew up in the area. He attended the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1988 after receiving a portfolio scholarship. In 1989 he moved to New York City to study at the Art StudentsÂ’ League, concentrating on painting and scultpure. He received a merit scholarship from the school in 1990. From 1990 to 1992 Kunde worked as studio assistant to his instructor Frank Mason. He also began showing in group shows in the city. Kunde returned to Cleveland in 1992 and set up his studio. Since then he has exhibited extensively in the eastern United States, from New York to Miami, Florida. He has garnered recognition for his expressivefigurative paintings, detailed still-lifes, large scale floral works which combine sculptural representation with a strong sense of abstract composition, and recently for works based on intuitive juxtapositions of disparate images.
