Full calf leather with a red and black leather inserted components on spine with tooling and gilt. Bookplates inserted into all four volumes of Geo. E. Alexander. Samuel Richardson (1689-1761) was an important and influential English novelist. In his day he was also one of the most controversial as this novel showed, with rivals divided as "Pamelaists" or "antiPamelaists".
