| 123. George Cattermole (British, 1800-1868)
"The Saucy Page". Watercolor on paper depicts five figures. A man with a feathered helmet lurks in the background. A well-dressed gentleman stands to the left. In the center a page kneels before a young lady and a young man dressed in blue. Several large plates and urns are scattered throughout the room. Image measures apprx 10-1/4" x 15". Overall, matted and framed apprx 18" x 23". Cattermole was well known for his watercolor paintings and illustrations. His illustrations were featured in such works as Charles Dickens "Barnaby Rudge." He was nicknamed "Kittenmoles" by Dickens. Cattermole was offered many commissions by Queen Victoria and later offered a knighthood, which he refused. 500/700 Sold $603.75 back to catalog |
