279. Large Hand-Chased Chafing Dish

Hand-chased silver (plate) chafing dish has a unique design. Cast ram's heads comprise the legs of this dish. Curved horns protrude from the legs. Base of legs are cast to resemble hooves. Rams are joined together by swags of leaves accented by a ribbon medallion in the center. Floral design hand chased across exterior of dish. Decorative finials are located at the sides of dish. Can be loosened or tightened to keep lid on or push lid back. Lid has a hand-chased floral design on exterior with smooth areas where initials can be engraved. Handle made from ivory or bone. Stamped M.H. & Co. on verso with several letters in small cartouches. Simple unadorned dish inside cannot be removed. Overall measures apprx 12" x 17".
