| 41. Ora Coltman (American 1858-1940)
Canvas mounted to board, an image in honor of Vicktor Schreckengost's "Blue Horse". Signed lower right, unframed, apprx 19" x 15-3/4". Coltman is a well known Cleveland artist whose work is difficult to find and is well known amongst Cleveland School collectors. From the estate of George Adomeit, estate stamp on verso. Ora studied with William Merritt Chase at the Students Art League and exhibited at the Case Library in in 1902 watercolors from his travels in England and France. He also exhibited in the Cleveland May Shows c.1920-30 as well as Cleveland galleries such as Gage Gallery, Womens City Club, Lindner's Little Gallery as well as the art institute and academys of Chicago and Philadelphia. As a WPA painter in 1933, Ora was commissioned to paint the mural "Dominance Of The City" for the Cleveland Public Library. 400/600 back to catalog |
