88. Jacques Callot (French, 1592-1635)

A grouping of 19 images. These images depict various characters from everyday life, including a ragged old man with a cane, an old woman with a rosary, a beggar, a man with a wooden leg, a mother with three children and an old woman with cats. Prints are numbered in lower right corner, 1, 2, 4, 6-10, 12-20 and 23-25. All signed "Callot" in lower left corner. Images measure apprx 4" x 6". Mounted to paper. Overall size is apprx 8" x 10".

The French 17th Century artist Jacques Callot is one of the first 17th Century artists to work exclusively as a printmaker and attain fame. His oeuvre encompasses about 1400 prints and over 2000 drawings produced over less than three decades. His career is generally divided into his Italian period (1608-1621) and his French period (1621-1635).
